FPCCI Urges Govt to Address Business Concerns Within a Week

Business Leaders Urge Unity and Dialogue Amid Economic Challenges
President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Atif Ikram Sheikh, expressed on Saturday that the chamber does not intend to create any difficulties during the current situation. He called on the business community across the country to maintain unity and avoid any form of protest immediately. The Ministry of State for Finance has agreed to hold monthly meetings at FPCCI to address the concerns of the business community, review previous discussions, and involve representatives from various relevant institutions.
In a video statement, Sheikh mentioned that during a recent meeting with the Minister of State for Finance, stakeholders raised strong reservations about certain clauses in the Sales Tax Act and the Income Tax Ordinance. Specifically, Sections 30A, 8B, and 40B of the Sales Tax Act, as well as Section 21S of the Income Tax Ordinance, have drawn attention from the business community. The minister assured that these concerns would be addressed. Sheikh noted that the minister requested until Tuesday to consider the controversial clauses and resolve the issues amicably. He emphasized that dialogue and negotiation are essential to resolving conflicts and maintaining stability.
Sheikh also highlighted that the economy is showing signs of improvement, and confidence among the business community has been restored. He urged an end to the atmosphere of fear and stressed the importance of unity in the current circumstances. He reiterated his call for the business community to avoid protests and work together. The FPCCI is actively involved in this matter and will announce its future actions after consultation if the government fails to resolve the issues within a week.
Commitment to National Development Despite Challenges
Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), reaffirmed the business community's dedication to national development, despite ongoing challenges. He emphasized that ICCI remains committed to its role as a bridge between the government and the private sector, aiming to improve the ease of doing business and promote economic progress.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Builders Association, Qureshi assured the group that ICCI will proactively raise their concerns with relevant authorities, including the Capital Development Authority (CDA). This effort aims to ensure timely resolution of issues and create a more supportive environment for builders and developers.
Collaboration Between Chambers and Associations

He reiterated the association’s commitment to following all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and cooperating with the CDA to establish a transparent and efficient working environment.
Senior Vice President of ICCI, Abdul Rehman Siddiqui, and Vice President Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, provided the delegation with information on various initiatives undertaken by ICCI under Qureshi’s leadership. They assured the builders that all possible efforts would be made to support their operations and address their concerns through effective advocacy.
The visiting delegation included prominent members such as Basharat Gujjar, Gulfraz, Aftab Kazmi, Malik Changeez, Malik Shahbaz, and Yousuf Khattak. ICCI Executive Member Aftab Ahmed Gujjar was also present at the meeting.
