Tough Times, United Strength – Okpebholo

Edo State Governor Expresses Optimism Amid Economic Challenges
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, recently acknowledged the ongoing economic challenges faced by the state but expressed confidence that the people of Edo can overcome these obstacles through unity and collective effort. His remarks were made during a public address to party supporters, youths, market women, socio-cultural groups, and members of his ancestral Udomi community at Udomi Primary School in Esan Central Local Government Area.
The governor received a warm welcome from the crowd following the Supreme Court’s decision that affirmed him as the rightful governor of Edo State. This moment marked a significant milestone for the state and its residents, who have endured a prolonged period of political uncertainty.
Okpebholo took the opportunity to express gratitude to all those who supported him throughout the election process and the subsequent legal battles. He emphasized that the victory was not just his own but belonged to the people of Edo. “We thank you all for standing by us throughout the period of the election and during all the court cases which ended at the Supreme Court,” he said. “All the judges reaffirmed the mandate that you have given to us.”
He also thanked God for the success in the election, the Election Petition Tribunal, the Appeal Court, and finally, the Supreme Court. “Now that all disputes have been laid to rest, it is time to work,” he stated. The governor highlighted that the focus now shifts to bringing development to the people of Edo.
“Now, we will be more focused on bringing development to our people. We are determined to make life better for Edo people, and we will ensure transparency and accountability in governance,” he added. His message was clear: the state must move forward with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to progress.
Despite the current economic difficulties, Okpebholo remained optimistic about the future. “These are tough times for Edo people, but together, the challenges will be surmounted,” he said. His words reflected a deep understanding of the struggles faced by the citizens and a firm belief in their resilience.
The governor was accompanied by several key figures during his visit to Udomi. These included the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, State Acting Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebo, APC Edo Central Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (retd.), top government functionaries, and party supporters. Their presence underscored the importance of the event and the support for the governor’s leadership.
The gathering served as a platform for the governor to reconnect with his roots and reiterate his commitment to the people of Edo. It also provided an opportunity for community members to voice their concerns and aspirations. The event highlighted the significance of grassroots engagement in shaping the future of the state.
As Edo State moves forward, the emphasis will be on fostering collaboration between government and citizens. The governor’s speech reinforced the idea that collective effort is essential in overcoming challenges and driving sustainable development. With a renewed focus on transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, the people of Edo can look forward to a brighter and more prosperous future.
